Post Workout Nutrition

If you’re like most people, you probably put so much effort into planning your workout and then following through on that plan that you don’t think much about what happens after the workout is over. However, this can be a big mistake. The time period after your workout is one of the most important times, and you need to make sure you use it properly.

First and foremost, make sure you always do a proper cool down after your workout. This should include stretching and breathing exercises for all your muscles, but especially for those you’ve spent a lot of time working out. The cooling off period allows your body to come down gently from the exercise. It also eliminates soreness and stiffness following the workout and helps to repair any strains or tears to the muscles and body.

After the cool down is over, you need be sure you drink a good amount of water. It is very easy to become dehydrated when working out, and drinking water replenishes your body. if you’ve sweated a lot during the workout. Once you’re feeling good and hydrated, it’s time to think about eating.

You’ll want to eat a good, healthy meal that contains plenty of protein and a few carbohydrates. This meal, however, should not contain any fat. The meal will help your body to replenish its energy and to burn calories effectively. Make sure it’s a smaller meal or just keep it simple with a readymade protein shake.
